About Steve "The Super"

Steve Nathan is a third-generation building superintendent and a proud member of New York City’s 1000 Green Supers.

He has over 30 years of advanced training in technology, building systems, and management. His professional credentials have included certifications for Supervising #6 Oil Burners, Refrigeration, Sprinkler and Standpipe Systems, and Hi-Rise Fire Safety. He recently completed a Harvard Business School/USAF developed course on Leadership.

He started learning about buildings and people at the age of eight by following his dad around. His natural curiosity about mechanics and maintenance took hold, and he was soon helping tenants, operating manual elevators, and fixing things around the apartment complex.

After serving four years in the United States Air Force, Steve worked as a civilian contractor at the Nellis Air Force Base Electronic Warfare Ranges north of Las Vegas. He also spent 13 years as an engineer at a major Las Vegas Casino/Hotel.

Steve managed apartment buildings on Manhattan’s Upper East and Upper West Sides and in Greenwich Village, and served as Chief Engineer of a midtown office building.

When Steve isn’t fixing things, giving lectures, or coaching, he enjoys woodworking, cooking, traveling, creating stained glass, playing the guitar, and writing fiction. He also participates in Landmark Education’s Communications Curriculum and coaches for their Team Management and Leadership Program.

Steve dedicates this book to his two daughters.
